What is an LED Screen?

LED screens are made up of clusters of light emitting diodes which emit light when an electrical current flows through.

Each LED shows three colours - red, green and blue. At a distance, you would not notice the individual LED’s, only an overall picture as they all work together in sequence to create the correct colour.

What is Pixel Pitch?

The pixel pitch is the distance between each LED. The closer the LED’s are together, the higher the resolution the LED screen.

As a general rule of thumb, we advise 1mm of pixel pitch per 1 metre viewing distance. For example, if your screen is 2 metres away from the closest viewer then the pixel pitch we would recommend is 2mm.

Of course there are no hard fast rule and it all depends on your objective. For example, a LED screen may be used to attract customers to the POS and not need to be viewed up close.

What are the advantages of using LED Video Walls over Projection?

To put it simply, LED screens are leading the way over Projection in retail applications for the following reasons:

• LED screens do not require a throw distance, so are much more practical to use in window or store displays where space is a premium. Projectors require an unimpeded throw distance and a surface to project on to.

• LED screens emit their own light from each LED so looks crisper, brighter and more impactful even in brightly lit environments like window displays. Projectors work by reflecting light from the screen in to the viewer’s eyes, so can look washed out wherever the ambient light cannot be fully controlled.

• LED screens are modular so can be creatively scaled up to suit any size or shape. Projectors normally come in native screen ratios (16:9, 16:10 and 4:3), therefore it is difficult to achieve any non-standard aspect ratios without adding in more projectors.
